WAR MEMORIALS in WYKE A fund was started for a War Memorial following the First World War, but not enough was raised, and so the money was used to fund an old folks treat for some years.

Above the WWI memorial is the legend 'To the glory of God and in memory of men of this parish who gave their lives for King and country in the Great War 1914 to 1918'. Above the WWII memorial is the legend ' To the Memory of The Sacrifice and Service of the People of Wyke 1939 to 1945'. Also mentioned is Corporal Ian Metcalfe, who died on the 15th June 1988 in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. |
