Holy Trinity, Low Moor: Baptisms 1729-1741 |
Wibsey Registers and the Hartley Thwaite Transcription Holy Trinity, Low Moor was originally Wibsey Chapel – a Chapel of Ease for Bradford Parish Church. The baptism and burial registers start in 1674, but there are Bishops Transcripts from 1661. There are gaps in the registers for some of the early years so we have taken some entries from an unpublished transcript done in the 1970's by Hartley Thwaite. For details of which records survive please click here. Until 1780 our records are not strictly a transcript, but an amalgamation of sources in an attempt to recover the entries. We have made notes where the sources differ or one of them is incomplete. In the Comments column “Bfd” signifies a difference between the two entries. “HThw” is a comment made by Hartley Thwaite. All other comments are made by our checkers. Until 1781 baptisms and burials are both entered in the same register. They are not in strict date order but usually in periods of several months with baptisms and burials listed separately. We have not adhered to this order but have separated baptisms and burials and then sorted them into their respective date order. As always with a transcript, if you have any doubts about the entry, consult the original at the West Yorkshire Archives or on Ancestry.co.uk Please note : the Gregorian calendar was not adopted until 1752. Previous to this the new year started on March 25th (Lady Day), so January 1st to March 24th would come after December in the same year. We have given the dates as they appear in the Registers - in the notes column Gr and a date denotes the year in the Gregorian Calendar, which is useful for calculating ages.
